How to Import Events into the Eventchamp Theme (Eventbrite, Facebook, Meetup and iCal)
Eventchamp is built for sites that live and breathe events: conferences, concerts, workshops, meetups. A site like that needs a full calendar all the time. But every event you add by hand means another title, another date, another venue, another organizer and another image to upload.
The WPEA Eventchamp Addon takes over that routine. It lets WP Event Aggregator create events directly in the Eventchamp theme, using Eventchamp’s own organizers, locations and map tab.
Before and After
| Without the addon | With the addon |
|---|---|
| Copy the title and description from the source page | Pulled in automatically |
| Download the image, upload it, set it as featured | Image imported and set for you |
| Create the organizer and location by hand | Created and reused automatically |
| Type in the dates and times | Filled in from the source |
| Repeat for every new event | Run once, or schedule it to repeat |
What You Need
- WP Event Aggregator
- WP Event Aggregator Pro
- The Eventchamp theme, active, together with the companion elements plugin that comes with it
- The WPEA Eventchamp Addon
If something is missing, the addon shows a notice in your dashboard that tells you what to install or activate.
Your 5-Minute Walkthrough
1. Activate the license
Go to WP Event Aggregator → WPEA Eventchamp Addon License and enter your key so the addon can receive updates.
2. Connect a source
In WP Event Aggregator → Settings, connect the source you plan to use. Eventbrite, Facebook and Meetup need a quick connection (a token or app credentials). iCal does not need one. The WP Event Aggregator documentation explains each connection.
3. Choose Eventchamp as the destination
Open the import tab for your source and select Eventchamp Event under Import Into. Then pick an event category and a status. Imported events arrive as pending unless you choose a different status, which is a good way to review them before they appear on your site.
4. Import
Run the import. You can do it once, or set it as a scheduled import (hourly, twice daily, daily, weekly or monthly) to keep your calendar topped up.
Where Can the Events Come From?
- Eventbrite by Event ID, Organizer ID or Collection ID
- Facebook by Event ID or Facebook Page
- Meetup by Event ID or Group URL
- iCal from an .ics file, an iCal URL or an Outlook Calendar
- CSV, XML and JSON files using the file import in WP Event Aggregator Pro
Most of these accept a single event for a quick test and a whole organizer, page, group or feed once you are ready to scale up.
What a Finished Event Looks Like in Eventchamp
The addon does not just paste text into a post. It fills the places Eventchamp uses:
- Title, description and featured image. The image is also added to the event’s photos.
- Date and time. Start, end and expiry are saved for the event.
- Category. The Eventchamp event category you selected in the import form.
- Organizer. Created as an Eventchamp organizer, with name, email, phone, website and image when the source provides them.
- Location. Created as an Eventchamp location, with its address, map coordinates and link.
- A Map tab. When an event has a location, a map tab is added to the event page automatically.
- Online events. Events without a physical venue are assigned an “Online Event” location.
Organizers and locations are matched by name, so a venue or organizer that is already on your site is reused instead of being created again.
Pro Tips
- Start with one event. Import a single Event ID first and open the page on your site to see how the theme displays it.
- Use schedules for organizers you follow. An Eventbrite Organizer ID or a Facebook Page on a schedule keeps new events coming in.
- Turn on Update existing events for the source if you want changes at the source to come through. Without it, events already on your site are skipped when you import again.
- Add your ticket details. Eventchamp’s ticket settings keep the theme defaults on imported events (the ticket currency symbol defaults to $), and the original link is stored only as a reference. If you sell tickets through Eventchamp, add or adjust the ticket details on the event.
Good to Know
- Each import creates single events. Repeating events from a source are not set up as recurring events.
- The original event link is stored with the event, so you can see where it came from.
